이 두명의 클라이밍 파트너는 지난 7년을 이 코스를 오르기 위해 준비를 했고
5년동안 트레이닝을 했고 2010년에는 1/3을 오른 후 악천후로 돌아선 적이 있다
작년 12월 27일에 오르기 시작하여 1월 14일 오후 3시 25분에 마침내 정상에 섰다

그들은 전 구간의 32핏치를 모두 자유등반(Free climbing)으로 마쳤다
이들의 등반이 각광을 받는 이유이다
수직고도 3000피트의 엘 캐피탄(El Capitan)의 남동벽에 있는
여명의 벽(Dawn Wall)을 통하여
등산전문가들은 이 코스를 "지구상에 가장 어려운 암벽코스"라고 하는데
32개의 핏치로 시작부터 끝까지 5.12에서 5.14의 난이도를 가지고 있다.
암벽등반의 어려움을 5.xx로 등급을 나누는 제도를
요세미티 데씨멀 시스템(Yosemite Decimal System)이라고 부르는데
1930년대 씨에라 클럽에서 암벽장비(특히 로프나 기타의 장비)가 필요한 등산코스를
5급(Class 5)으로 부르기 시작한 후 이것을 어려움의 정도에 따라 5.1, 5.2....5.10으로 나누었으나
현재는 5.15C(같은 급을 다시 A,B,C등으로 세분)까지 나왔다
원래의 10분법은 엘레이 근교 아이들와일드에 있는
타큇츠 락(Tahquitz Rock)에서 개발된 후 요세미티 클라이밍에 적용하기 시작하였다.
1970년 워렌 하딩(Warren Harding, 1924-2002)이 딘 칼드웰(Dean Caldwell)과 같이
27일에 걸려 개척한 클라이밍 라우트(climbing route)이다.
왜 "여명의 벽"(Dawn Wall)이라고 했을까?
요세미티 계곡에 해가 뜨기 시작하면 제일 먼저 햇빛을 받는 곳이기 때문이다.

요그슨은 이 구역을 지나며 11번 추락을 하고도 굴하지 않고 노력하여
이 코스에서 제일 어려운 15핏치를 통과하였다.

이와같은 직벽에서 여러 날을 보낼때 사용하는 포ㄹ타렛지(portaledge)
경금속 프레임으로 조립할 수 있고 비바람을 막을 수 있는 커버(스톰플라이, stormfly)를 부착하여
꼭지점 한 군데만 고정을 시키면 균형이 유지되게 디자인되어 있다.
